Have you ever chipped a tooth? « Thread Started on May 13, 2004, 4:39pm »
should i go to the dentist if i chipped a tooth?
it doesn't hurt, but i keep getting this compulsion to sooth the affected tooth with my tongue. not sure why. it does feel funny though.
the top of my tooth chipped off a couple weeks ago during breakfast. it looks slightly curved at the top of the tooth now. it doesn't seem fatal, i just can't seem to stop worrying it with my tongue.
can a cavity cause a tooth to chip? but i don't think i have one....maybe? not sure...i don't see a hole which usually signifies a cavity...

I haven't chipped a tooth (knock on wood), but two co-workers have. Last year, one bit down onto her fork and really took a big slice out of her front tooth. She had it fixed and you can't tell which tooth it was. This year, one bit into a hot dog and bit something hard and thought there was a piece of bone in it. It turned out it was a piece of her bottom tooth. She had it fixed, too.
I remember when I was in elementary school (1986-ish), we had a dentist come in and he talked about how they now had this stuff they match to the color of your chipped tooth (in order to fix it). It was pliable until it dried and it became really hard. It was neat--he passed it around so we could see it.
I'd go get it looked at and fixed, if I were you. Good luck!

I chipped a tooth when I was in second grade. I fell off the monkey bars and landed on my face. (Sounds funny, but don't laugh!) I ended up breaking my nose and splitting my lip, and I chipped my front tooth. Never had a problem with cavities or anything, and I never got it "fixed".
